    WAQRAPUKARA, is an archaeological site in Acomayo, city of Cusco. At 4,300 meters above sea level, it was built by the Qanchis and later conquered by the Incas. It was declared in 2017 as Cultural Heritage of the Nation by the Ministry of Culture. The building would be an Inca sanctuary destined to worship its main deity the “God Teqsi Pachacamaq Wiraqocha” God of the Qanchis and is located on platforms, squares and a stone forest.

    Waqra (horn), Pukara (fortress), or horn-shaped fortress. However, for the Acos communities this fortress is known as Llamapukara, since they assure that the horns are actually ears of a llama that remains alert in the presence of foreign people.

    Waqrapukara Cusco, it is also an Inca sanctuary means that it had great political and religious power. It consists of 2 groups: the first group is in the highest area of ​​the building, there are two groups of enclosures separated by a central space of considerable amplitude and these in turn have passages, double jamb facades and niches that function as ornaments and the second group is in the lowest area and consists of 8 terraces 150 meters long and 2 meters high. Also, you can see two enclosures with double jambs and niches plus 5 enclosures that are located at the eastern end.

    Itinerary

    The tour begins with the pick-up from the hotel from 4:30 to 5:00 a.m., once the whole group is complete we will start the tour, we will travel for 3 hours in tourist transport towards the town of Santa Lucía, in the course we will make a stop in Cusipata to have breakfast, then we will continue the trip. In Santa Lucía we will take a detour traveling for 15 more minutes through a zigzagging road until we reach Punta Carretera.

    Place where we will get ready for about 10 minutes to make the last preparations, before starting our walk towards Waqrapukara. Once everyone is ready we will begin to walk, the walk is uphill with a duration of 1 hour and 30 minutes, the distance to travel is approximately 2.5 kilometers, arrived at Waqrapukara the guide will explain the importance of this Archaeological Complex, Then we will have free time to tour the place on our own and take photos, after the visit we will enjoy a delicious box lunch, then we will return along the same road to Punta Carretera, where our transport will be waiting to take us back to Cusco. .
